The Colorado Avalanche lost their star defenceman for the third period of Monday’s game against the Calgary Flames.
Cale Makar was ruled out by the team with an upper-body injury after staying in the locker room following the second intermission.
The 27-year-old blue-liner’s last shift came late in the second period, when he assisted on a Nathan MacKinnon power-play goal.
Head coach Jared Bednar told reporters after the game that Makar will be evaluated further on Tuesday.
Makar took a hit from Calgary forward Adam Klapka earlier in the period and was checked on by team training staff before taking two more shifts, per the Denver Post‘s Corey Masisak.
He had logged 17:15 of ice time prior to leaving, collecting three assists as Colorado built a big lead over the Flames.
The three helpers brought the two-time Norris winner to 74 points on the season in his 73rd game.
