Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss participates in the Conservative Political Action Conference in 2024.Liz Truss just unveiled the cover of her upcoming new book, Bank Job – and was immediately torched on social media.
The former prime minister, who made history after lasting just 49 days in office, has written a “short book on how the Bank of England broke the bond market and brought down the government” after her disastrous mini-Budget.
Its publication will coincide with the first Budget of Andy Burnham’s on October 28.
The ex-PM famously plunged the country into chaos with her mini-Budget, which included £45 billion of unfunded tax cuts.
Inflation soared, mortgage rates spiked and the value of the pound plummeted as the economy was thrown into chaos.
Furious Tory MPs ended up turfing Truss out of office just seven weeks after she replaced Boris Johnson as PM.
A gag about her stint in Downing Street being shorter than the shelf life of an iceberg lettuce still resurfaces every so often on the internet.
But Truss’s new book will tell a slightly different story of her downfall.
It will elaborate on her argument that the “establishment” and the Bank of England were to blame for the economic crisis, rather than her policies.
This new tome will “lift the lid on what really happened around the Mini-Budget in 2022, challenging the establishment narrative and examining in particular the role of the unaccountable Bank of England”, according to the press release.
The front cover – in the style of the crime thriller film Reservoir Dogs – shows Truss behind a government desk with a famous red ministerial box.
Five men in sunglasses stand behind her.
They are believed to be former prime ministers, Gordon Brown and Tony Blair, ex-Bank of England governors Mark Carney and Mervyn King along with former chancellor George Osbourne.

Naturally, Truss’s announcement sparked a rather bewildered response on X.
Even Truss’s own former trade policy minister Conor Burns mocked her book.
He wrote on X: “She is now an international embarrassment with zero self awareness.”
@JAHeale here is a summary: she announced £100 billion of uncosted energy ‘support’. The markets and the party realised she was a nut job and financially illiterate. And she was, mercifully, ejected.
She is now an international embarrassment with zero self awareness. https://t.co/pkuyZgYIit
One social media user edited the book cover to rename it “Whack Job”, along with the caption: “A short book on how Liz Truss broke the bond market and a lettuce brought down the government.”
They added a lettuce onto the desk next to Truss as a finishing touch.
Others expressed disbelief that, three years on, Truss still seemed to be in denial about her role in the economic chaos.
Still can't just accept that it was you being a moron that spooked the markets and brought down the government, can you?

"Coming to a Poundland near you soon!!!"
— John Nevill (@cortina) October 20, 2026And some called it a work of “fiction” – much like her first book, Ten Years to Save the West, which came out in 2024.
