Alan Ritchson Voices a Harry Potter Reboot Concern Many Fans Already Share

Reacher and Motor City star Alan Ritchson is a Harry Potter fan, and he seems to have doubts about the upcoming HBO TV adaptation of the popular fantasy book series. He also recently revealed that the movies are a major source of inspiration for him.

Alan Ritchson thinks HBO jumped the gun on the Harry Potter reboot

Alan Ritchson confessed during an interview with Collider at the San Diego Comic-Con that he is a “huge” fan of the Harry Potter films. “For me, it’s Harry Potter,” Ritchson said when asked about which TV show or movie he goes back to for inspiration. “I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. Just the dun, du-dun, dun… Just the sound of that movie inspires this feeling of magic. I believe that we live in a world of magic, and a lot of us have forgotten that, or don’t believe it anymore. I think our job and my mission in film and TV is to continue to bring that kind of thing to life on screen so that we remember that’s a part of us,” he explained.

However, as big a fan of the films Ritchson is, he doesn’t want to see another adaptation of J. K. Rowling’s books this soon. “Yeah. I’m a big fan of the films, but yeah, I will watch,” Ritchson said about the TV show. “But I don’t know. I also think it’s hard for me… It’s too soon. For some things, it’s too soon. Maybe Goonies. Maybe it’s time for another stab at Goonies… But I don’t know. What’s the time limit?” he added.

Notably, the main film series, starring Daniel Radcliffe and comprising eight films, ran from 2001 to 2011. Additionally, the three Fantastic Beasts prequels, starring Eddie Redmayne, debuted in theaters between 2016 and 2022. Ritchson seems to echo a concern that is widely shared among the franchise’s fanbase.

The Harry Potter TV series premieres on HBO and HBO Max on December 25, 2026.
