Discussion surrounding manga's all-time greats can occasionally shift to the creators dominating the cultural moment, and they're certainly worth the praise. But others transcend singular moments and influence multiple entire generations to follow. Celebrated artists and authors such as Makoto Yukimura after positively nailing Vinland Saga from start to finish, or Eiichiro Oda making One Piece seemingly greater with every arc. But in the eyes of Katsuhiro Otomo, creator of Dōmu, The Legend of Mother Sarah, and of course, Akira, the enduring mangaka whose legacy and versatility that have still been underestimated continues to be Osamu Tezuka.
