An Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star recently addressed their absence from Secret Invasion while revisiting questions about the show’s place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a recent appearance, the actor spoke about the series’ uncertain canon status and explained why their character was not included in the Disney+ series.

Agents of Shield’s Chloe Bennet says she should’ve been in Secret Invasion

Chloe Bennet, who portrayed Daisy Johnson, also known as Quake, in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., stated, “I’m not playing a bit. This isn’t a joke. I don’t know anything; they haven’t asked me. If they would, you know me, I can’t keep a secret, I would tell you guys.”

Chloe Bennet when asked if she will return as Daisy Johnson/Quake in the #MCU:

She emphasized that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is “not really considered canon,” adding, “I agree I should have been in Secret Invasion, but I wasn’t. Probably would have been better.”

The comments come as debates about the show’s MCU status continue. When Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuted in 2013, it was marketed as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with direct ties to The Avengers (2012).

Characters such as Nick Fury and Maria Hill appeared in early seasons, and the series initially aligned with events in Marvel films. Over time, however, the connection weakened, especially after Marvel Studios restructured its television projects during the Disney+ era.

Fans speculated for years that Bennet might reprise her role in Secret Invasion, given Quake’s ties to the comic book storyline. However, Bennet confirmed she was never approached. She also noted, “I think the show will make some weird, random comeback. Like if it gets put on another streamer or something. But as of now, no.”

The debate over canon status has persisted beyond Bennet’s remarks. In 2024, Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum suggested that integrating ABC’s Marvel shows into the MCU was still under consideration. Co-star Ming-Na Wen has previously said the series became a “separate entity.”

Despite uncertainty, Bennet shared in late 2024, “I don’t think I’m done playing Daisy… I’d be interested in playing Daisy as a real adult.” (via ComicBook)
