Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan filed a case with the Delhi High Court on Wednesday,September 10, requesting that it issue an order protecting his publicity rights and personality, as well as prohibiting entities from using his name, picture, and voice for commercial purposes without his permission. Justice Tejas Karia stated that the court will order the removal of URLs that violated the actor's personality rights, taking into consideration the notice that Bachchan's lawyer had given against defendant corporations.

"We'll consider it. I will pass an order," the judge said.

Before Abhishek, Aishwarya filed a similar petition

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is married to Abhishek Bachchan, filed a similar plea with the court a day earlier, requesting that it issue an order to protect her personality rights and prevent online platforms from unlawfully using her name, photos, and artificial intelligence-generated explicit material.

What did Abhishek claim in his plea?

In his lawsuit, Abhishek Bachchan, who is being represented by lawyers Pravin and Dhruv Anand, asserted that a number of organisations have been violating his publicity and personality rights by "clandestinely" and "surreptitiously" using his name, voice, and video for unlawful commercial purposes without disclosing their identities.

According to the lawsuit, the defendant corporations were also utilising artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to produce deceptive, fraudulent images and videos of him and other celebrities that contained offensive, obscene, and sexually explicit material.

"Artificial Intelligence and Deepfake technology are being used by the defendants to misuse the person's image, likeness, name, etc. for the purpose of gaining views and likes on their own YouTube channels, Instagram handles, and Facebook profiles," the plea said.

Court slams misuse of tech, Google to comply

The lawsuit further stated that such a malicious use of cutting-edge technology is unlawful, improper, deliberate, and dishonest, and that it eventually results in irreversible harm and injury.

Advocate Mamta Rani on behalf of search engine Google stated that the platform will remove the URLs in accordance with the court's directive.

The court set January 15, 2026 as the hearing date for both Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's case.
