Aaron Taylor-Johnson‘s upcoming period horror movie Werwulf has revealed its first official look. The film is directed by Robert Eggers, best known for Nosferatu.
The official synopsis for Werwulf reads, “Witness Robert Eggers’ most visceral and haunting experience yet. Focus Features presents Werwulf, a harrowing tale of devotion, damnation and the devil within.”
What do we see in the first look at Werwulf?
The first look image from Werwulf shows Aaron Taylor-Johnson standing in a wild forest with several canines. His character, a 13th-century man, is also seen holding a weapon in his hand.
Coming from Eggers, who has previously made The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman, the upcoming period Gothic horror, Werwulf, is another highly anticipated title in his career. Eggers’ last project, 2024’s Nosferatu, was well received by critics and audiences. Currently, it holds a solid Tomatometer score of 85% and a Popcornmeter score of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.

As for Taylor-Johnson, he was most recently seen in 28 Years Later, a sequel to the original 28 Days Later film. The acclaimed and highly successful 2025 horror thriller also featured Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer, Danny Boyle, Erin Kellyman, Edvin Ryding, and Emma Laird, among others.
Speaking more of Werwulf, the film has been in production for a while now. Last year, several pictures from its shooting location were revealed online. Earlier this year, the project expanded its cast. It was revealed that Hamnet star Bodhi Rae Breathnach had joined Werwulf.
The rest of Werwulf’s ensemble cast includes Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson. All three have previously worked with Eggers.
Werwulf is co-written by Robert Eggers and Sjón. They are also serving as the producers alongside Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Garrett Bird. Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, and Bernard Bellew are the executive producers.
Focus Features’ Werwulf is set to hit theaters on December 25, 2026.
