Napheesa Collier needs to watch her back. After it seemed the 2025 MVP was a two-horse race between Collier and Allyssa Thomas, A’ja Wilson has shown the effect of counting her out. The 2024-MVP has been flying in the last few weeks, so it was no surprise when she dropped another 30-bomb on the Atlanta Dream. The Aces star led the way for their 12th consecutive win with her 34 points and 10 rebounds, while proving Becky Hammon right.
“I know, at times I can look down at the stat sheet and I’m like, ‘oh s***, she had 36 or 34?’ Like, you don’t even notice because it’s become so normal.” Hammon said a few days ago while addressing teh MVP race and Wilson has made the exception her norm, dropping 11-30 point games this season, tying her own record from 2024. While she is still one game behind Jewell Lloyd and Maya Moore, Wilson is well on her way to shattering this record.
However, when it comes to the all-time record, Wilson remains at second place with 35 career 30+ games, only behind Diana Taurasi, who holds the record with 54 career games. Despite this blazing form, which stretches back to 2024, Wilson was demoted in the latest NBA 2K ratings. Wilson went from a 98 overall rating in 2025 while starring on the cover of the deluxe version to a 97 overall. The fans weren’t sure of what Wilson did to earn this little decrease. However, the star herself doesn’t care for it.
“A lot of people were definitely not pleased with the NBA 2K rating for you at just being a 98. So, and a lot of a lot of fans um definitely voiced against that rating being only 98. So, does Ronnie 2K owe you all a re-evaluation again for that rating?” Asked a reporter after their Dream win.
Wilson brushed it off by saying, “No. I think I’m all right. You know what, Ronnie, you got it right. We’re gonna be good. As long as in life I can play like a 100 in-game, it’s gonna be all right. But hey, I don’t really play the video game. I’m not the best at it. But, you know, my ranking could be a 16 and I still would love it. So, it’s all good.”
The 2K debate has actually spilled into fan circles, where many argue Wilson’s dominance deserves a “99 club” status. Others point out that women players consistently get lower ceilings than their NBA counterparts, sparking a fresh conversation about gender equity in gaming representation. This discourse has only amplified Wilson’s visibility off the court, where she’s becoming both a cultural and basketball icon.
In the end, it’s still just a video game. Even the 2026 cover star, Angel Reese, doesn’t care for her rating in it. Angel Reese was approached by a reporter during practice and asked about her NBA 2K26 rating. To everyone’s surprise, the cover star didn’t even know what it was and showed zero fuss about it. “I don’t know my rating,” she said, and when told that her rating put her in the Top 10 in the league, she replied, “Oh, okay, does that mean something?”
Let’s be real, the rating doesn’t mean a thing for the players on the actual hardwood. Reese has averaged 14.3 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 27 games this season while being the sole carrier of the Chicago Sky side. On the other hand, Wilson is getting MVP shouts on the road in Atlanta. That really says everything about Wilson’s 2025 season, where she is repeating her 2024 carry job.

The last time the Aces won 12 in a row, they were the Silver Stars, and coach Becky Hammon was on the court in an Aces shirt. Before this run, the Aces were barely making the playoffs, according to many fans. Wilson looked tired of carrying the team on her back, looking like the only one with some life.
The All-Star Game gave them some time to reset and turn things around, but the Minnesota Lynx spanked them 111-58. That was the second-biggest loss in WNBA history. That was the moment Hammon tore her team apart in the media, after which they flipped the switch. What changed? The rusty gears finally found some oil with Chelse Gray coming back to her pre-injury form.
“She looked different at the beginning of the season because she wasn’t being Chelsea Gray. She looks like Chelsea Gray now,” Hammon said after Vegas’s win against the Dream last week. Dana Evans is dropping crucial points week in, week out, along with Jackie Young. When you look at the numbers, the support is not much when compared to some other top teams, but for A’ja Wilson, that is enough.

Wilson is absolutely dominating the stat sheet this season. She’s piling up more total points than anyone in the league while breathing down Napheesa Collier’s neck in scoring average. But here’s where it gets ridiculous: she’s the undisputed queen of rebounds, blocks, and player efficiency. No one else even comes close. And if that wasn’t enough, she’s the only player cracking the top three in four major categories: points, rebounds, steals, and blocks. However, most fans see this as the norm, but this is legendary territory as she marches for her 4th MVP award. Wilson needs just a little backup to take this team to the title and go past their 2024 performance, which had a similar story.
