9-1-1: Nashville Season 2 adds another notable 1990s-era star opposite Chris O’Donnell. The production introduces a recognizable name as the series continues expanding its ensemble. The announcement signals a major addition while keeping character details largely under wraps.

Ryan Phillippe joins the cast of 9-1-1: Nashville Season 2

According to Deadline, Ryan Phillippe has joined 9-1-1: Nashville for Season 2 as a new series regular. He signed a multi-year agreement for the first responder drama. He will play a highly skilled and unconventional detective who relocates to Nashville from New York. The character carries a troubled history and a rebellious personality.

The report indicates the detective will create tension among the first responders. He will also lead a major investigation into a criminal targeting Nashville on a large and symbolic scale. Phillippe joins established cast members including Chris O’Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. Additional regulars include LeAnn Rimes, Michael Provost, Juani Feliz, Hailey Kilgore, and Hunter McVey.

The series expands the 9-1-1 franchise into Tennessee with a new group of emergency responders and their families. ABC granted an early renewal for the 2026-27 season alongside the flagship series. The renewal followed a varied ratings performance during Season 1. The show began with strong numbers before declining during the fall finale period.

Ratings stayed lower during the winter return before increasing again with two peak performances. However, these high points occurred in late January and late March. The series currently averages nearly 8 million viewers across 35 days of multiplatform viewing. Distribution includes ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and digital services.

Meanwhile, production is handled by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television. Executive producers include Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and showrunner Rashad Raisani. Additional producers include Chris O’Donnell, Brad Buecker, Brad Falchuk, and Angela Bassett. Season 1 resumes on April 30, with the finale scheduled for May 7.

Additionally, Phillippe recently appeared in Prime Video’s Motorheads. His television credits include Secrets and Lies, Big Sky, and Shooter. He is set to appear in Paramount’s One Mile and its sequel One Mile More.
