With the digital release of Kevin Williamson’s Scream 7, it’s time to re-evaluate Scream 3’s ranking in the Wes Craven franchise. The third installment has never been taken quite as seriously as the others, often claiming the last spot in fan rankings. Fans and critics alike denounced the film’s singular villain, Roman Bridger (Scott Foley), dubbing the long-lost half brother plot clumsy and anticlimactic. At the time, Roger Ebert's review of Scream 3 said the identity of the killer was “absolutely arbitrary” and described the characters as “so thin, they’re transparent.”
