Signs are supposed to make things clearer. That is usually the entire job. Point people in the right direction, explain a rule, warn them about something important, and then get out of the way. Naturally, that does not always happen. Other signs are clearly trying to be funny and succeed mostly because somebody committed very hard to the bit.
