A sci-fi miniseries has an advantage that movies do not and regular long-form television often wastes: they can arrive with ambition, build a whole world, wreck you emotionally, and leave before the idea starts thinning out. That matters. Some science fiction is brilliant for a season and then gets trapped explaining itself. A masterpiece miniseries does not have that problem.
