Existentialist horror movies are always popular, because people just love to feel that sense of dread and terror. There are plently of reasons why, though it's mostly morbid curiosity about life and its philosophical lessons; people have lived and died for the purpose of finding life's meaning. Existentialist horror doesn't really scare with monsters or gore (though some films do); they unsettle you by removing meaning, certainty, and comfort.
