Science fiction has beena cornerstone genre of cinema since the early days of silent film. Since those more simple films, advancements in visual effects technology have allowed filmmakers to explore even bolder visuals and more imaginative ideas. It isn't always the case, as many modern sci-fi films fall short narratively or visually, but the best find new ways to explore the genre and tell exciting or inventive stories. In the last five years alone, there have been some particularly perfect sci-fi films.
