J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings is by far the most influential fantasy work of the modern era. It is a snippet of a much larger Legendarium that focuses on Frodo Baggins, a hobbit who comes into possession of the One Ring, a powerful artifact created by the Dark Lord Sauron, with which he can dominate the world. Frodo sets off with a group of companions to try and destroy the ring, but the journey is beset by many dangers, including the ring itself, which has a dark will of its own.
