One certainly doesn’t need to be a history buff to recognize and appreciate the significance of the D-Day invasion. Dubbed Operation Overlord by the Allied forces, the enormous military assault remains the largest amphibious invasion in history, and its success was instrumental in defeating the Nazi regime. It allowed American troops to enter the European Theater of WWII en masse, leading to the steady recession of Axis forces up to the announcement of V-E Day just 10 months later in April 1945.
