One of the decade’s most acclaimed horror movies is finally getting a physical release. Despite surpassing box office expectations, a physical format was never made available for four years.
What horror movie is finally getting a physical media release?
Barbarian will soon be released in 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray SteelBook. The movie was released in 2022 by 20th Century Studios and New Regency. Since Disney-20th Century handed over its digital media business to Sony, Barbarian finally has a release date for the physical format.
20th Century is set to release the physical format of the horror film on August 11, 2026. It will also include the director’s (Zach Cregger) and producer’s (Roy Lee) audio commentary, behind-the-scenes features, and deleted scenes. It will also feature a new art by Creepy Duck Design.
Barbarian stars Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and Justin Long playing the characters Tess, Keith, and Cale. It follows a young woman who rents a house in Detroit, only to discover it has already been booked by a strange man when she arrives at night. Despite this, she spends the evening and soon discovers that there is more to fear within the house.
Zach Creggar’s Barbarian was created on a $4.5 million budget and earned $10.54 million in the opening weekend alone. By the end of its theatrical run, the movie grossed $45.35 million worldwide.
Moreover, Barbarian won the Best Horror Movie award at the Critics’ Choice Super Awards, currently holding a 92% RottenTomatoes Score. It captivates and shocks its audience with its bizarre twists and carnage alongside a subversive sense of humor.
Creggar is also known for directing Weapons (2025), another acclaimed horror movie, which started off with a budget of $38 million and earned around $270 million at the end of its theatrical run.
